‘Forever Lands’ – documentary on children’s writing in Scotland

By - Richard - 8th June 2023

Inspired by the rich history of modern children’s literature in Scotland, with classics such as Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island and J. M. Barrie’s Peter Pan still captivating imaginations and inspiring numerous adaptations worldwide, ‘Forever Lands’, a new documentary that Swift Films has just produced, outlines the growth of Scottish writing and publishing for children.

The film features interviews with writers and publishers currently working in Scotland, shedding light on the development and impact of the sector.

Commissioned by Publishing Scotland, the film is written and presented by Jamie Crawford and was produced and directed by Richard Nicholls.

The writers and publishers featured, in order, are James Robertson, Mairi Kidd, Maisie Chan, Katy Lockwood-Holmes, Theresa Breslin, Joan Haig, and Alastair Chisholm.

The film premiered at the Scottish Book Trade Conference in Edinburgh, Scotland, on 18 May 2023.

‘Forever Lands’ is the third documentary we have produced for Publishing Scotland, after ‘Dark Travellers: The Rise of Scottish Crime Writing’ and ‘Second Nature – new nature writing from Scotland’.
